MONTREAL – It was at least two decades ago that the B’nai Brith office in Quebec initiated an annual event on the steps of Montreal City Hall to commemorate Yom HaShoah. It was well-organized and appreciated, but targeted to a small audience and usually held in cold temperatures.

TORONTO – On Friday, July 28, a graveside service was held at the Congregation Darchei Noam section of Pardes Shalom Cemetery in Maple, Ont. for Barry Zbar, a Montreal native who, despite moving to Toronto over 30 years ago, never forgot his roots.

MONTREAL - Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre has done a lot of things Montreal's Jewish community is grateful for, including a moving mission to Israel and helping launch B'nai Brith's annual Yom HaShoah ceremony at City Hall. However, his dismissal of a high-ranking and long-serving Jewish city councillor from a prestigious post is not going over very well.

MONTREAL - Fourteen years ago Montreal businessman, philanthropist and B’nai Brith Canada supporter Amos Sochaczevski felt that the city’s annual Israel rally needed an adrenaline shot. Federation CJA had moved the event from downtown to the suburbs and, as such, it lacked the kind of appeal he felt it deserved.
