OTTAWA – Following years of B’nai Brith Canada’s advocacy, the Federal Government has taken action to prevent terrorist organizations such as Samidoun from existing as corporations in this country.

“Canada must treat this loophole as a threat to its national security,” said Richard Robertson, B’nai Brith Canada’s Director of Research and Advocacy. “When the Government declares a group to be a terrorist entity, it must be treated as one. Samidoun’s continued existence as a federal corporation has been a stain on this country’s conscience.”

The Government’s proposal, which was included in the 2025 Federal Budget, would amend the relevant legislation to expedite the process by which corporations linked to terrorist entities are dissolved.

B’nai Brith Canada has repeatedly drawn attention to the issue of Samidoun, a terrorist entity that continues to exist as a not-for-profit corporation. We have raised the matter in public forums, with parliamentarians and through extensive grassroots campaigns supported by thousands of Canadians.

“This is a crucial step towards making Canada safer, combating hate and upholding Canadian values,” Robertson said. “B’nai Brith Canada will continue to work with Parliament to ensure that the proposal is implemented. We encourage all parliamentarians to support its adoption.”
