OTTAWA – After B’nai Brith Canada’s advocacy, the Federal Government has barred the extremist Irish rap group Kneecap from entering the country.
Among other things, the band has repeatedly glorified violence and extremism – from waving a Hezbollah flag in London to inciting hostile chants at major festivals.
“We thank the Government for recognizing our concerns, which were shared by thousands of Canadians,” said Richard Robertson, Director of Research and Advocacy for B’nai Brith Canada. “This decision must serve as a precedent. Groups such as Kneecap cannot be permitted to come to our country and foment discord, incite hate and glorify violence.”
In comments to Sun media reporter Bryan Passifiume Friday morning, Robertson said Kneecap constitutes a specific threat to the Jewish community.
He added that the group “represents a threat to all Canadian values and to all Canadians… Kneecap should never have been welcome here in Canada, and we’re glad to see that they will not be able to perform here and to spread their hateful ideology and potentially indoctrinate Canadians.”
