A group of community stakeholders from across Canada has signed B’nai Brith’s joint statement opposing an anti-Israel motion proposed in the House of Commons by the New Democratic Party (NDP).

The motion will be heard March 18 and calls on Canada to pressure Israel into an “immediate ceasefire” in its war against Hamas despite significant ongoing threats to the safety and security of Israel’s civilian population.

“This joint statement, signed by a diverse group of stakeholders, should send a powerful message to Parliamentarians that Canadians do not want to sabotage Israel’s ability to defend itself,” said David Granovsky, B’nai Brith Canada’s Director of Government Relations. “Our foreign policy must not become an impediment to Israel’s campaign to neutralize the terrorists who are preventing the development of a lasting peace.”

B’nai Brith condemns the NDP’s recommendations as being unrealistic and likely to create additional obstacles to the implementation of a sustainable peace in the region. We strongly urge the NDP to reconsider its misguided proposal and call on all MPs to vote against it on March 18.
