Ottawa – B’nai Brith Canada notes with great sadness the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Canada’s Head of State and the longest-serving British monarch.

The Queen marked 70 years on the throne this past February – a reign that has seen great changes take place around the world. Although she avoided public debates on policy, she was nonetheless seen as a highly-effective diplomat and statesperson. She visited Canada 20 times and held audience with numerous Canadian Prime Ministers, meeting Prime Minister Trudeau as recently as March 7, 2022.

Queen Elizabeth’s steadiness and grace through many tumultuous times, most recently the Coronavirus pandemic, was a source of reassurance to Canadians over the decades. Canadian Jews admire and respect our constitutional monarchy that has contributed to the development of democracy in Canada and the associated rights and freedom that it brings.

B’nai Brith extends our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and we honour her life of service both at home and abroad.
