WINNIPEG — B’nai Brith Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ruth Ashrafi as our Regional Director for Manitoba.

Ruth has a professional background in Jewish education, with an abundance of experience in day school, adult, and academic settings. A doctor in Jewish Studies, she also has been an active volunteer in interfaith relations and human rights education, serving on numerous boards of community-engagement organizations.

“We are very excited to have someone as qualified as Ruth join our team,” said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B’nai Brith Canada. “The Jewish community of Manitoba will be in very good hands with Ruth as our Regional Director in the province. We look forward to her contributions and to the important role she’ll play.”

Originally from the Netherlands, Ruth lived in Israel for six years and has spent the past 15 in Winnipeg with her family. She values the different perspectives on Judaism and Middle Eastern politics that she has experienced in each country. Ruth also is an avid reader of history and biographies, and has a passion for different languages.

“I am always thankful for Canada’s contribution in liberating the Netherlands in 1945,” Ruth said. “The courage and dedication of Canadian soldiers and their families inspire me to pay it forward and help make Canada strong and safe for all its citizens.

“B’nai Brith’s advocacy for human rights and its work in community engagement is a perfect fit. I look forward to assisting in the growth of B’nai Brith in Manitoba.”
