THANK YOU B’nai Brith for 150 years of your Mitzvot. The world is a better place for your collective talent and assiduous efforts! Yasher Koach and here’s to the next 150!
My Mitzvot: Over decades, I continue daily to provide personal care, shop for and deliver food, medical and other supplies to disabled and elderly people. I perform music in senior’s residences, sing at and organize Holocaust concerts and offer lectures. I engage in human rights (HR) public policy work, fight Jew Hatred, collect and donate clothing, fundraise and advocate for Israel, for courageous HR journalists, activists, dissidents.
BRAVO B’nai Brith for collecting Mitzvot testimonies, further inspiring Tikun Olam.
I am able to donate a ‘significant’ amount of money to ‘good’ charities, roughly three quarters to Israel & one quarter to Canada
Registered the domain DrugHarms.org to provide free and quick access to a ranking of legal and illegal recreational drugs according to their harms. This is important for the general public and policy makers.
Gathering the discarded clothing from the Toronto Marathon runners with B’nai Brith Canada, I felt a quiet satisfaction knowing it wouldn’t go to waste. By diverting it from landfill and donating it to those in need, each item was given a second purpose—turning a simple cleanup into something meaningful.
B’nai Brith Canada food bank delivery driver – “I love helping people not only with the deliveries but also with the emotional side as I’m sometimes their only visitor for the week so get to spend time with wonderful people and bring some light into their lives.”
Todd and Jacquie have been amazing volunteers for the B’nai Brith Canada Winnipeg Weekly food program and have been volunteering since the beginning.
They also volunteer with the B’nai Brith Canada Winnipeg Holiday food programs for Rosh HaShanah and Chanukah.
I have a long history of volunteerism with many organizations both Jewish and secular. It is my personal policy that giving of myself in a “hands-on” manner is much more meaningful than simply donating money and this is what I endeavour to do wherever it is feasible. The B’nai Brith Canada Food program gives me the additional benefit of meeting face to face with the people I am helping and this is most satisfying.
“I like helping people and being a part of a community. Kavod staff are very nice people to work with. I like to learn and experience new things.
My co-workers/volunteers are helpful and nice people. Kavod is a place to gain great work experience.”
I like to volunteer because it gives me a chance to help others and make a positive difference in my community. Volunteering helps me learn new skills, meet new people, and feel good knowing that I am doing something meaningful. It also gives me experience that I can use in my personal and professional life.

I recently went through my closet and filled a bag with gently used clothing, hoping it will go to someone who truly needs it. I always donate to B’nai Brith because their pop-up shops ensure the clothing reaches those in need. It’s comforting to know my contributions are making a difference in someone’s life.

Combining good deeds with personal enjoyment is always a great combination. In this regard on a couple of occasions this year I “secretly” shoveled ice and snow off the driveways of my neighbors. Good and useful exercise.
We donated food to the local church’s food bank to support those in need. We are happy to participate in this campaign. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our community.
For the past three years, we’ve been coming every week to help pack food boxes with B’nai Brith Canada’s food program. We loved the sense of community, the amazing people who showed up, and the feeling of giving back. When we delivered the boxes, seeing the joy on people’s faces was incredibly rewarding.
Alon wants to help his community by delivering food boxes for the B’nai Brith Canada Food Program.
Rost is a newcomer from Israel. He joined our food program a month ago and he’s very happy to help with this project and enjoys being involved in the Community programs.
Marvin has been volunteering since the beginning of the food program, for more than 3 years. He said that it makes him feel good to do a mitzvah like this while helping people in need .
I enjoy volunteering with Kavod to gain work experience and expanded my skill set. I also like giving back to the community. Kavod has had a very welcoming environment with friendly staff.
“I volunteer because it keeps me grounded in the community as I pursue my career goals.” – Kavod Volunteer
At B’nai Brith Canada’s Montreal Seniors Knitting Program, Alice knit a hat for Nathalie (who is the picture wearing the knitted hat).
This is Wendy. She was seeing all the news about the Winnipeg wildfires and the thousands of people being evacuated from their homes. She really wanted to help but was unsure how. Then she saw the Kavod Thrift Store post on Facebook asking for people to deliver the donations Kavod had collected. She was so happy to help and did three deliveries for Kavod!! Above and beyond!
For the past year, I’ve had the privilege of delivering food boxes for the B’nai Brith Food Program, and each time, I’m met with heartfelt gratitude from the recipient. It’s truly inspiring to witness the joy these food boxes bring to our community.
These weekly deliveries provide essential groceries at no cost to those in need, offering support and comfort in challenging times. Being part of this initiative has been a meaningful way to give back and contribute as a volunteer within the Jewish community.

I’ve had the honour and pleasure of volunteering this Winter with the Track 3 organization — accompanying teens and young adults with disabilities every weekend as we cross-country ski, snowshoe or hike in Earl Bales park! We just celebrated the completion of the 2025 program and it was a joy to witness each athlete getting their medal for participating in the program.
Remembrance is a powerful thing. Just as we recall the evil of Amalek many centuries ago, we will never forget October 7th and the ongoing attempts to persecute the Jewish people.

As a part of the Centre Wellington DHS environmental action month, our Canadian History class participated in “Garbage Clean Up Week”. We went around the entire school property and collected 5lbs.
Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to share, and to be a part of the 150th celebrations of B’nai Brith Canada. It gives our class the opportunity to spotlight vibrant communities that continue to be such an important part of Canada’s history. Thank you for your continued work as Canada’s oldest human rights organization.
Our family picked tulips and prepared bouquets that we later brought to seniors for mother’s day!
One of our incredible food delivery drivers for the B’nai Brith Canada food program, says he delivers food boxes to Seniors because “Doing this makes me feel better about myself.”
Shelly and Bruce are super shoppers for the B’nai Brith Canada food program in Edmonton, Alberta. Every second Wednesday for the last 3 years they have volunteered by religiously searching out bargains, in order for B’nai Brith Canada in Edmonton to provide the most nutritious food at a cost savings price for the food program.
“It has been a rewarding experience in Kavod for the last 6 months. As a newcomer in Winnipeg, people in Kavod make me feel welcome. I enjoy working here, chatting with coworkers and discovering many vintage items from the donation items. I sincerely hope that Kavod will succeed and that more and more volunteers will join us.”
“Volunteering at Kavod thrift store has been a meaningful experience for me. It promotes sustainability by giving old clothes a second life. It’s also been surprisingly interesting to come across items I wouldn’t normally notice, which has broadened my perspective. On top of that, the environment is really friendly – everyone is kind, welcoming, and supportive, which makes volunteering there more enjoyable.”
At B’nai Brith Canada’s Montreal Seniors Knitting Program, Yudit finished her knitted blanket, which will be sent to the IDF and is already onto her next one. She’s on her fourth blanket!
Mitzvah Day 2024 was a huge success, and this year, we reached nearly 1,700 people in the GTA, marking a more than 40% increase over last year’s efforts. We supported incredible organizations including Ve’ahavta, Chai Lifeline, Fill a Purse for a Sister, and JIAS.
Our volunteers also organized the second Annual Mitzvah Day Family Bingo event for the residents of the NCJWC Toronto Foundation building and a teen committee of volunteers hosted a carnival day at DANI. The Mitzvah Knitters contributed baby blankets for newcomers.
This project fosters stronger connections and brighter futures within our community.
It happened today I was in the bank, I saw a friend there, we talked, by the end of the conversation he was very happy to do a Mitzvah and put on Teffilin.

I try to make it a habit of thanking the service staff in all sorts of establishments, for instance by pressing the green buttons of those machines in supermarkets. It is easy to hit the red ones if one is not happy, but is just as simple to signal (also to the superiors of the staff on the ground) that all was good or even very good.
Love delivering for the Food Program at B’nai Brith Canada – as a new volunteer this is such a rewarding experience!
For this week’s mitzvah comes from Helen, who donated yarn to the B’nai Brith Canada Montreal office knitting club and knit for IDF soldiers.
Helen: “Whatever you’re knitting for Israel always works out. The pattern, the length, the wool—you never need to worry.”
We visited seniors today! We brought them some goodies from the bakery and spent time with them.
“I am volunteering in Kavod because it helps me stay active in a hands-on work environment while getting involved with the community. Since I relocated to Winnipeg, volunteering has helped me stay engaged and adapt to the local work culture.”
“I am volunteering at Kavod because I enjoy helping out and helping people in the community. I also like to add some experience to my work history and maybe work fully in this industry. I enjoy the experience.”
