“Kill All Jews Now” is an Acceptable Message, Facebook Says

Facebook has determined that a graphic explicitly calling for the genocide of all Jews “doesn’t violate [its] Community Standards.”

The global social media giant made its determination in response to a complaint filed by B’nai Brith Canada. It took Facebook two hours to conclude that the post was acceptable, according to the company’s standards.

The image, which was posted as a comment on the Facebook wall of University of Lethbridge Professor Anthony Hall, depicts a white man assaulting an Orthodox Jew, accompanied by a lengthy, violent antisemitic screed beside the photograph. It should be noted that Hall is well-known for using his academic credentials to deny the Holocaust and promote 9/11 conspiracy theories

The image is accompanied by this message: “There never was a ‘Holocaust’, but there should have been and, rest assured, there WILL be, as you serpentine kikes richly deserve one.” The image text ends with the entreaty “KILL ALL JEWS NOW! EVERY LAST ONE!”

B’nai Brith is outraged by the post and by Facebook’s refusal to remove it.

UPDATE: As of 3:15 PM ET on Friday August 26, B'nai Brith Canada has learned the image has been removed from Facebook. A screengrab of the image has been taken before its removal and can be viewed here.

“Antisemitism in all forms is rampant on social media, but this is the clearest, most obvious kind of antisemitism one could possibly create,” said Michael Mostyn, B’nai Brith CEO. “The classification of this as antisemitic cannot be challenged, and the fact that this promotes violence towards Jews is beyond dispute. Regardless, Facebook has deemed it acceptable despite its ‘community standards’ containing clear provisions against hate speech. The Jewish community deserves no less protection or respect than any other when it comes to hate speech and threats of violence.”

“Every year, upon publication of our Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, a contingent of detractors accuses us of saying the sky is falling, and that antisemitism does not exist in Canada,” said Amanda Hohmann, National Director of B’nai Brith’s League for Human Rights. “Content like this is proof positive that not only antisemitism of a genocidal nature exists in Canada, but the systems that are supposed to protect us from racist hate speech don’t consider hatred of Jews to be problematic.”

B’nai Brith has reported the post to Lethbridge Police Services.

Hey there Jew Haters and those who incite anti-Semitism: Remember Adolph Eichmann? If you are a vicious example of your genre just remember the thump thump of his body as it pendulumed between the walls of an Israeli prison. You are not untouchable anymore. They know where you hide and when you leave for work. The clock ticks.
    Enjoy your free speech.

And, David, Christianity is an off-shoot of Judaism. Jesus was a Jew. Are you suggesting for one moment that he believed any of that crap?
  • commented 2016-08-30 15:01:11 -0400
David Dennis, Judaism is indeed a monotheistic religion – dumping in things that haven’t been part of Judaism for centuries, if ever, does not make it so. And that other crap you’ve dug up from several thousand years ago is crap, as well. Don’t try to pin that crap on us!

I wonder if they would feel that Kill All Facebook Employees Now was a good thing to have on Facebook! I don’t see much difference except that one is not only hate speech, it is antiSemitic on top of it. I am so unimpressed. Maybe we should allow rants about killingbFacebook employees on a daily or hourly basis? They seem to feel that that’s okay for Jews. Why not for themselves, as well?

This article doesn’t make clear who removed the anti-Semitic remarks, Facebook or the professor. I have removed my membership from Facebook but would reinstate it if it was Facebook that removed the material

Robyn Blanpied : While the three Abrahamic religions did have some forms of discrimination, (some very nasty) and while some sects within these religions have not had a “reformation” that calls for total equality, calling for the killing of all members of another faith is a bit different. I’m sure you agree.

    For example,
The latest edition of ‘Forms of Prayer’ mentions in the Amidah not only that God is the “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” ’ but also the " ‘God of Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel". All masculine terms like ‘Father’, ‘King’ or ‘Lord’ are expunged, being replaced by gender-neutral terms like ‘Eternal One’, ‘Creator’ or ‘Ancestor’ or just GOD.

This story was linked to on FB, so as a test I replaced the word “Jew” with “Muslim” and the post was removed, make of that what you will….

Hall is a moron. Because one has academic credentials is not an automatic stamp of validity or authority that what they claim or state is true. Denying the holocaust is simply foolish on all levels because we have such voluminous amount of evidence that it did happen. Most if not all of these “professors”, and I use that term lightly, are simply average hacks with no real claim to fame in their chosen fields, so they rant and rave to the stupid public among us in hopes that they will achieve some sort of accolades and credibility.

    This is a disgrace!
    You have no standards!

Has it occurred to anybody that we must not block racist or antisemitic comments on social media, precisely because it’s the best way to identify racists and antisemites and track them down and hold them to account? Turning out the lights doesn’t make spiders go away, it only prevents us from protecting ourselves against them.

I’m not at all surprised by it. We have been trying for years to get an homophobic page shut down and the response was always: “ it doesn’t violate Community Standards.” Even graphic pictures and memes.

I have contacted the VP of Human resources regarding this matter which included this posting and the link to the image Professor Hall shared. Thank you for the actions you have taken thus far.

Besides being furiously disappointed by Facebook, I just messaged the U of L. Perhaps they don’t know who is working for them? If they do, I hope they are embarrassed and do something publicly to shame this behaviour and distance themselves from this kind of madness.
