Job Description – Writer/Researcher, Communications Department

LOCATION: Montreal, Quebec

Responsibilities
• Independent sourcing and identification of potential news stories for publication through Communications Department
• Following up with community partners to develop story ideas with minimal oversight
• Utilizing existing contacts and sources to evaluate information and story ideas
• Writing content for Communications Department publications, including: press releases, media advisories, blog posts, social media posts, op-eds
• Writing content for speeches
• Editing and proof-reading content, where applicable
• Dealing periodically with media
• Working closely with Advocacy (League for Human Rights) department to identify action steps included in communications pieces
• Working closely with Government Relations director to identify action steps included in communications pieces
• Participation in planning meetings
• Clipping of all relevant stories in which B’nai Brith is Canada mentioned (but please talk to the Chief Media Officer before beginning this task)
• Research advocacy action and communication items, as assigned
• Test and troubleshoot all website features and functions
• Monitor and respond to emails to departmental email inbox ([email protected]) (but please talk to the CMO before beginning this task)

Deliverables
• Submission of story ideas for consideration
• In conjunction with social media co-ordinator, provide social media backup and assist in updating website and social media
• Assist in set-up and development of online publication platforms

Applicant’s fluency in both English and French, both verbal and written, is a requirement.
