Overview:
B’nai Brith Canada is a leader in the Jewish community, dedicated to fighting antisemitism, protecting human rights, and providing essential community services. We are seeking a dedicated Community Engagement Assistant to oversee key programs, especially within our food bank and senior programs. This role is vital to supporting our volunteers, organizing impactful community events, and ensuring that all operations meet high standards of safety, efficiency, and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Volunteer Coordination & Oversight:
    • Oversee, recruit, and train volunteers for our food bank program.
    • Manage volunteer schedules to ensure adequate staffing and efficient operations.
    • Ensure a positive and rewarding experience for volunteers.
  2. Food Bank Operations:
    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food handling and storage standards.
    • Work with contractors and suppliers to maintain stock and supplies.
    • Support daily operations to ensure food is distributed safely and effectively to those in need.
  3. Event Planning & Execution:
    • Assist in organizing and setting up special events, including community gatherings, educational events, and holiday celebrations.
    • Collaborate with team members to achieve event goals and objectives.
    • Coordinate logistics, including liaising with venue staff, catering services, transportation logistics, and equipment needs.
    • Manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented.
    • Develop and manage event schedules and task lists, ensuring timely execution.
  4. Seniors Programming:
    • Work closely with seniors to support all program activities.
    • Facilitate meaningful engagement with our senior community through various programs and services.
    • Ensure programming is inclusive, engaging, and beneficial for senior participants.
  5. Clothing collections
    • Oversee, recruit and train volunteers to work on our clothing drives.
    • Recruit, schedule and support volunteers for set up of clothing give away events.
    • Communicate with suppliers and arrange pick up of equipment needed for clothing events.
    • Ability to communicate with agencies and recipients
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in community engagement, event planning, or volunteer coordination.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
  • Must have full access to a car.
  • Knowledge of food handling and safety regulations is an asset.
  • Experience working with seniors is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and work within financial constraints.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Community Development, Event Management) or equivalent experience.
