SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah Commemoration:<br>National Holocaust Monument
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nYom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a solemn moment for us to honour the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, and to remember the countless others targeted by the Nazi regime.\n\nThis year’s ceremony, organized by the National Holocaust Committee, marks a moment of profound historical significance: the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—the most infamous Nazi death camp and enduring symbol of humanity’s capacity for cruelty.\nThis year’s commemoration will pay special tribute to the profound tragedy endured by Greek Jewry, the majority of whom were deported to Auschwitz. By the end of World War II, between 82% and 92% of Greek Jews had been murdered—one of the highest death rates in Europe. \nProgram highlights will include:  \n\nKeynote Address \nHer Excellency Ekaterina Dimakis, Ambassador of Greece \n\n\nMusical Tribute \nSong of Songs from Ballad of Mauthausen by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, performed by Elie Manousakis (Montreal), accompanied by the Young String Performers in Concert, directed by Joan Milkson \n\n\nSpecial Presentation \nHannah Alberga, granddaughter of David Moskovic, Ottawa’s oldest living Holocaust survivor \n\nProvincial political leaders, Mayor Sutcliffe, Ambassador Moed, and Ottawa Holocaust survivors and families will be in attendance. Fran Sonshine, Past President of the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem, and founding member of The National Holocaust Monument, will deliver closing remarks.  \nDate: Thursday, April 24, 2025  \nTime: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT. \nLocation\n(Live-streamed above)\nNational Holocaust Monument \n1918 Chaudière Crossing \nOttawa, ON K1R 1C7 \nB’nai Brith Canada is proud to be a supporting partner of the National Holocaust Monument Committee. \n
