SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah Commemoration: National Holocaust Monument
DESCRIPTION:\nThis year, Yom HaShoah will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the deportation of 440,000 Jews from Hungary from May 15 to July 9, 1944. Most were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau where they were murdered, the majority in gas chambers. By the end of July 1944, the only Jewish Community left in Hungary was that of Budapest, the capital.\nThis official commemoration will invite not only the Jewish Community but all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the past. In particular, a special focus will be on inviting students from the National Capital Region to attend.\nThe Ambassadors of Japan, Czech Republic and Hungary will present as well as a musical recital from the renowned violinist, Atis Bankas, member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and first violinist of the Gould String Quartet. B’nai Brith’s Director of Government Relations, David Granovsky will also be speaking at the event.\nThe event will take place at the National Holocaust Monument, 1918 Chaudiere Crossing, Ottawa, from 11:00AM – 12:00PM EDT.\nB’nai Brith Canada is a member of the National Holocaust Monument Committee.\nStream the event live here on May 6th.\n
