NEW TERROR LISTING STILL LEAVES CANADIANS VULNERABLE

Toronto, November 27, 2002

For Immediate Release

Toronto, November 27, 2002… The Federal Government’s announcement that six additional terrorist entities have been listed under the Criminal Code is being viewed with caution by the Jewish human rights group, B’nai Brith Canada.

Rochelle Wilner, National President of the organization, remarked: “While we welcome the Government’s move to list six more known terrorist groups, one has to ask why other entities, such as Hezbollah, have been omitted. Furthermore, why has it taken the Government almost a full year to outlaw these groups? We fear that all Canadians are still at risk.”

Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, commented: “We still have significant concerns that many more terrorist groups, including Hezbollah, continue to operate in this country, even though CSIS has provided considerable information on the hazardous and illegal undertakings they engage in. We reserve the right to look at all possible options to ensure the Government does not continue to drag its heels on the issue of terrorists in this country.”
