Toronto, October 18, 2002 Four journalists will be honoured next week in Toronto for their outstanding contribution to Canadian journalism. The recipients of Bnai Brith Canadas 2002 Award of Distinction for Excellence in Journalism will be Stewart Bell of the National Post, Rosie DiManno of the Toronto Star, John Downing of the Toronto Sun and Marcus Gee of the Globe and Mail.
Bnai Brith Canadas award recognizes individuals whose coverage of complex and often controversial issues goes to the heart of the key social, cultural and political concerns of the day. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge the critical role of journalists in keeping the public informed on issues of vital public concern, both domestically and internationally.
A special citation of merit will be presented to the Lombardi family for their work in promoting and enhancing multiculturalism in Canada, by giving a voice to the many distinct ethnic and cultural groups that make up the mosaic of society in this country.
The recipients will receive their awards at a special community event in support of Israel at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2002 at the Shaarei Shomayim Synagogue, 470 Glencairn Avenue, Toronto. The guest speaker at the event will be Joseph Farah, editor of www.WorldNetDaily.com.
