Toronto, October 1, 2002

For Immediate Release

B’nai Brith Canada welcomes the signing of the bill by U.S. President George W. Bush recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Rochelle Wilner, National President of B’nai Brith Canada, stated: “Jerusalem has always been the heart of Jewish nationhood and the Jewish identity. We applaud President Bush and the United States Congress for its recognition of Jerusalem as the legitimate capital of Israel, the land of Zion.”

Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada, commented: “The time has long passed for Canada to review its policy on Jerusalem and recognize that the united city of Jerusalem is the proper and only capital of Israel, as it has been for centuries. Other religious communities should rest assured that the holiness of Jerusalem will continue to be respected by the Israeli government and its citizens.”
