BUSH’S CALL FOR AN END TO PALESTINIAN TERRORISM AND ARAFAT’S REMOVAL SEEN AS POSITIVE AND REALISTIC

Toronto, June 24, 2002

For Immediate Release

Toronto, June 24, 2002… B’nai Brith Canada has called President Bush’s address on the Middle East conflict a “realistic assessment of Arafat’s rule which has allowed terrorism to thrive and corruption to flourish”.

Rochelle Wilner, National President of B’nai Brith Canada, continued: “We support President Bush’s assurance that a Palestinian state will never be created by terror, but only through reform, and hope that his words will be taken to heart by those Palestinian leaders who can still make a difference.”

Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, noted: “We call on the Canadian Government to heed Bush’s firm stand on terrorism and all those who support it, so that Canada can truly become a part of a global coalition against terror. We note that the President spoke out forcefully against Arafat’s rule, while our own government has been ambiguous — and therefore ineffectual — in having any impact on the outrages perpetuated by the current Palestinian regime, both against their own people and against Israelis.”
