For Immediate Release
Toronto, Friday, April 12, 2002 Bnai Brith Canadas League for Human Rights called on Stephen Harper, the new leader of the Canadian Alliance, to reprimand M.P, Cheryl Gallant for anti-Gay remarks made in the House.
Stephen Scheinberg, the Leagues National Chair, declared that Gallants remarks are clearly unacceptable. It is important that the new leader remind his members that they will be held accountable for their words as well as their behavior. Mr. Harper can show the Canadian people something of the quality of his leadership by acting with dispatch. Intolerance of any minority is out of bounds in our highest legislative chamber.
