LATEST TERRORIST ATROCITY OUTRAGES JEWISH COMMUNITY

Toronto, January 17, 2002

For Immediate Release

January 17, 2002: Reports from the scene of the latest terrorist atrocity in Israel indicate that at least five people are dead and more than 25 wounded at a hall in Hadera, Israel, where a wedding was taking place. Authorities at the scene are determining if there is an unexploded bomb on the body of the Palestinian terrorist who sprayed the room full of celebrants with automatic weapons fire and hurled hand grenades into the crowd.

Once again, civilians have been targeted by the forces of terror. Once again, the Palestinian Authority has failed by lack of effort or by design to stop the killing of Israeli civilians. B’nai Brith Canada joins our brethren in sorrow and anger, and in demanding that Israel be left alone to pursue and eradicate the perpetrators of these heinous acts.

Rochelle Wilner, President of B’nai Brith Canada, and Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, expressed the outrage and bereavement of the Jewish Community. “Our own Ministry of Foreign Affairs has counseled patience and restraint to the Israeli government. What has that accomplished? Even after September 11th, even after calling another farcical ‘cease-fire’, the Palestinian Authority continued its nefarious plan to smuggle 50 tons of rockets, weaponry, and explosives into its armouries. And now the slaughter of innocent civilians continues. Could it be more clear that there is no partner for peace on the Palestinian side?”
