B’NAI BRITH CANADA TO ASSESS IMPACT OF TERRORIST ACTIVITIES IN ISRAEL

Toronto, December 7, 2001 — B’nai Brith Canada’s senior leadership will be in Israel next week leading a delegation from the Canadian Jewish community. Arranged by B’nai Brith Canada’s Institute for International Affairs in cooperation with B’nai Brith World Centre in Jerusalem, it will be led by Rochelle Wilner, President of B’nai Brith Canada and Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President of B’nai Brith Canada.

During the four-day mission, delegates will travel to Israeli communities to visit with terror victims and be briefed by experts from the International Policy Institute for Counter Terrorism. Mr. Dimant has previously been in Israel throughout the 1967 war, during the first scud missile attacks, the bus eighteen suicide bombings, as well as last year’s car bomb outside the market place in Jerusalem.

The mission coincides with the beginning of Chanukah and will be commemorated by a special candle lighting ceremony in Jerusalem. “The B’nai Brith delegation looks forward to lighting the flame of the Chanukiah in Israel to demonstrate our belief in the eternal flame of friendship and solidarity with the people of Israel,” said Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President, B’nai Brith Canada.

The participants led by Rochelle Wilner, President, B’nai Brith Canada represent a range of interests and perspectives within the Canadian Jewish community, and includes advocates of human rights, city councillors, representatives of media monitoring groups, business world and members of the legal profession.
