Toronto, May 25, 2001 As Israel mourned its losses in last nights wedding hall collapse in Jerusalem, and leaders around the world reacted with expression of sorrow and compassion, Palestinian terrorists grabbed the moment in an attempt to inflict further suffering and confusion.
In a letter of sympathy to Mayor of Jerusalem Ehud Olmert, Rochelle Wilner, President of Bnai Brith Canada, commented: With the bulk of Israels emergency rescue services converging on Jerusalem to aid the wounded, and rescue teams working round the clock to find survivors in the rubble, what could be more callous and opportunistic than to strike, in an effort to capitalize on pain and suffering.
Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, added: Nothing could be more stark than the contrast between expressions of sympathy Israel has received from around the world and the response of Palestinian terror groups which only sought to compound the effects of this terrible civil disaster. This is one just more example of Yasser Arafats refusal to live up to his commitments to rein in terrorists. Is this the compassion that Israel can expect from its partners for peace?
