For Immediate Release
Toronto, May 18, 2001 As Israel mourns six civilians dead and over a hundred wounded in this morning's latest terrorist outrage in the coastal town of Netanya. Hamas operatives distributed sweets to cheering worshippers after prayers at the main Ramallah mosque to celebrate the deaths. In Tulkarm Palestinians held a mock funeral to honour the suicide bomber.
Rochelle Wilner, President of Bnai Brith Canada, stated: We are outraged at this latest cold-blooded attack on helpless civilians. If Palestinians can support - and even applaud - this type of premeditated campaign of terror on the streets of Israel, how can they be regarded as true partners for peace? The time has come for Arafat to put an end to terrorism and begin to instil a culture of peace rather than violence into Palestinian society.
Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, added: The Palestinian Authority, even when it finally issues some sort of condemnation of terrorist attacks, is speaking empty words. In spite of its signed commitments and whatever limited regret it may voice, it continues to allow the infrastructure of terrorism to flourish, by releasing terrorists from jail, consorting with the leadership of terrorist groups, and facilitating and encouraging ongoing incitement to violence.
