For Immediate Release
Toronto, May 10, 2001 Bnai Brith Canada has expressed its concern over the apparent attempt by Mr. Atif Kubursi and the National Council on Canadian Arab Relations (NCCAR) to muzzle the leader of the opposition, Mr. Stockwell Day.
Rochelle Wilner, President of Bnai Brith Canada, asked: This lawsuit appears to suggest that assigning responsibility for the current Mideast violence to the Palestinians constitutes hate speech. Does this mean that any politician, of any political stripe, who speaks out in support of Israel can expect to be sued by the NCCAR?
Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of Bnai Brith Canada, commented: This attempt by the NCCAR to exploit Mr. Days current delicate political position, in order to court public opinion and media attention, underlines a cynical approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Bnai Brith Canada is determined to seek respectful means to further constructive dialogue aimed at helping to end the conflict.
