BABY IS THE YOUNGEST VICTIM OF PALESTINIAN POLICY OF VIOLENCE

Palestinian terrorist activities intensify in an attempt to provoke Israeli retaliation

March 27, 2001

For Immediate Release

Toronto, March 27, 2001... Three violent attacks against Israeli civilians in less than 24 hours have evoked horror and outrage both within Israel and in the international community. A baby was murdered by a Palestinian gunman, while casualties were heavy in two terrorist bomb attacks in the Israeli capital of Jerusalem.

Dr. Lawrence Hart, President of B’nai Brith Canada, commented: “This is a blatant attempt by the Palestinian Authority to provoke a strong Israeli retaliation in order to galvanize Arab opinion during the Arab League summit. However, Israelis and Palestinians can only reach a settlement through discussions and not through violence.”

Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President of B’nai Brith Canada, added, “These shameless and cowardly acts only serve to intensify the security fears of Israelis, and will inevitably postpone a return to the negotiating table. We are appalled by this deliberate targeting of a defenseless baby. It is imperative that Nobel peace prize winner Arafat use all means at his disposal to bring about a cessation of violence perpetrated by forces operating under the Palestinian Authority.”
