For Immediate Release
Toronto, December 11, 1996... Leaders of B'nai Brith Canada expressed outrage over a drive-by shooting on an Israeli family this afternoon near Ramallah by terrorists armed with automatic machine guns. The attack left a 12-year old child dead and five people wounded, two critically. B'nai Brith Canada is concerned that the terrorists fled in the direction of Ramallah.
Lyle Smordin, National President and Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President of B'nai Brith Canada, issued the following statement: We express our deepest condolences to the family of the slain child. We view the murder of innocent children with extreme severity and call upon Yasir Arafat and the Palestinian Police to abide by their commitment to pursue these individuals and bring them to justice. As negotiations continue on the status of Hebron, this latest attack confirms that the right of hot pursuit of fleeing terrorists is critical to Israeli security.
B'nai Brith Canada is Canada's major Jewish advocacy and volunteer organization.
