Toronto, August 12, 1996... Tonight, is the 15th Annual B'nai Brith Canada night at the Skydome. For fifteen years this community volunteer service program has taken place in cooperation with the Toronto Blue Jays. Over the fifteen years 50,000 members and guests from across Ontario have attended this event.
Through B'nai Brith Canada's Community Volunteer Service Programs, children from a wide range of organizations have been given the opportunity to see the Toronto Blue Jays play. Tonight there are children and friends from Regent Park and Earl Beatty Recreation Centres, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Halton-Peel and Bloorview Children's Hospital.
The "People Helping People" Award is presented annually to a player of the Toronto Blue Jay's Baseball Club for their work in the community over the past year. This year's recipient is third baseman, Ed Sprague. National President of B'nai Brith Canada Lyle Smordin and Chair of the Blue Jay Night Jerome Zwicker will be presenting the award. The ceremonial opening pitch will be thrown by Michael Florence a member of the National Advisory Board of B'nai Brith Canada.
B'nai Brith Canada is the largest Jewish volunteer organization in the country with more than 120 years of service to the community.
