“Gay Bashing Never Acceptable,” Comments B’nai Brith’s League for Human Rights

Toronto, November 28, 2003

For Immediate Release

Toronto, November 28, 2003 — The League for Human Rights has commended the swift action taken by the Canadian Alliance Party and its leader Stephen Harper on learning of the unacceptable anti-gay comments made by former family issues critic Larry Spencer.

“Mr. Harper has made it clear that statements of intolerance fall well outside the boundaries of legitimate political debate and will not be countenanced,” stated Professor Stephen Scheinberg, National Chair of the League. “We trust that all appropriate steps will be taken to ensure this type of outrageous outburst does not reoccur.”
