For Immediate Release
Toronto, November 14, 2003 Bnai Brith Canada has welcomed the decision of the Solicitor General of Canada, Wayne Easter, to add three more Palestinian-based terrorist groups to the list of entities knowingly engaged in terrorist activity.
Rochelle Wilner, National President of Bnai Brith Canada, stated: We have long advocated the expansion of this list to include all groups engaged in terror activities and therefore welcome this latest measure. However, since the Governments terror list is still incomplete, we urge Canada to follow-up by listing any and all groups that use violence and terror to advance their political agendas, wherever they may be operating.
Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President, commented: While this is clearly a positive step, we urge stringent follow-up activities that will ensure enforcement of the provisions of Canadas Anti-Terrorism Act. We note that no charges have yet been laid under the relevant Criminal Code provisions, despite warnings by various intelligence agencies that terror cells are still operating in this country. No Canadian is safe under these circumstances.
