For Immediate Release
Toronto, October 2, 2003 Bnai Brith Canada tonight congratulated Dalton McGuinty on his election as premier of the Province of Ontario, and asked for an early meeting to discuss the many serious challenges facing the provinces Jewish community.
We look to the government for assistance said Rochelle Wilner, National President of Bnai Brith Canada. One pressing issue is the prohibitively high cost of providing private security in our schools and synagogues in light of ongoing security threats and the alarming increase in antisemitic incidents in Ontario in the last few years. The entire burden falls on our community and the government needs to become active in looking for solutions to this untenable situation.
We enjoy good working relations with all political parties and look forward to working closely with Mr. McGunity throughout his entire term in office, stated Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President. Meanwhile we call on him to reconsider his stated intention of reversing the Education Tax Credit that has brought some measure of relief to parents of all religions who seek to provide a faith-based education for their children.
