B’nai Brith Canada Statement Marking 9/11

Ottawa, September 11, 2003

For Immediate Release

Ottawa, September 11, 2003 … B’nai Brith Canada, Canadian Jewry’s foremost human rights and community service organization, today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the USA:

B’nai Brith Canada joins with people of good will and conscience in remembering those who perished in the cowardly attacks perpetrated on September 11, 2001. We pray for the victims and hope that those they left behind will find consolation.

For many in the Jewish community, 9/11 is not just about the appalling images of death and destruction the world witnessed on that infamous day, and the friends and family that were lost. For us the pain is unremitting, since all of our beleaguered people in Israel — men, women and children — continue to be the target of senseless hate and unremitting violence and terrorism.

On this solemn day we remind Canadians that we, along with free men and women everywhere, have a moral obligation to stand against those who would promote, facilitate and ultimately, commit such evil acts, whether they are perpetrated in New York City, Bali or Jerusalem.
