For Immediate Release
Toronto, August 12, 2003 Bnai Brith Canada today condemns the two Palestinian suicide bombings perpetrated in Israel Tuesday morning.
We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms, said Rochelle Wilner, National President of Bnai Brith Canada. Today there were two deadly suicide bombings. This past weekend Hezbollah killed a young Israeli boy during an artillery attack on civilian communities in Northern Israel. We call on Canada to unequivocally condemn such premeditated violence against civilians and use its influence over Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian leadership to get them to rein in those who perpetrate these cowardly acts of violence.
Issues such as the release of Palestinian prisoners or taking down the security fence are red herrings to distract us from the real threats to peace, said Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President. Neither of these topics is even part of the so-called Road Map. The problem is that, just like during the Oslo process, Israel makes concessions and the Palestinians reply with violence. The only roadblock to peace is the absence of a Palestinian leadership that is willing to enforce the rule of law within areas under its control and dismantle the terrorist organizations still operating in direct contravention of the Road Map.
