B’nai Brith Canada Says Terror List Still Incomplete

Ottawa, April 3, 2003

For Immediate Release

Ottawa — B’nai Brith Canada acknowledged the government’s decision to add seven groups including the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades to its list of banned terrorist organizations, but warned that the list remains incomplete.

“The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades and Tanzim are partners in terror. Both are branches of Fatah, which is led by Yasser Arafat himself. What possible explanation could there be for banning one, but not the other?” asked Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada.

“We also remain deeply troubled by how long it takes to ban these organizations,” added Dimant. “These groups are proud of the acts of terror they commit and take credit for it. How long does it take to verify that they are responsible for acts of terrorism they themselves take credit for?”
