B’nai Brith Canada encouraged by Coderre’s strong stand on Zundel

Ottawa, February 20, 2003

For Immediate Release

Ottawa, February 20, 2003… B’nai Brith Canada welcomed statements made by Minister Coderre during Question Period this afternoon in the House of Commons.

Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President, stated: “We were impressed by the Minister’s commitment not to allow Canada’s refugee protections to be abused by an unrepentant hate monger like Ernst Zundel.”

“We are confident that the Minister will stand firm on this issue. Meanwhile, should the battle against Zundel have to begin again in Canada, as the senior human rights organization in the Jewish community, we will be ready. We’ve had intervenor status in this struggle in the past and, if necessary, we’ll go that route again. Meanwhile, we are working closely with the Human Rights Commission to prepare for all eventualities.”
