For Immediate Release
Toronto, February 17, 2003 Given the possibility that Ernst Zundel could be deported from the United States to Canada, Bnai Brith has urged the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Denis Coderre, to ensure that Zundel be refused entry. The well known Holocaust denier and purveyor of anti-Semitic materials has been found in breach of human rights provisions in Canada and anti-hate laws in Germany.
Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of Bnai Brith Canada, stated: When I spoke to the Minister earlier today, I asked him to intervene with his counterparts in the US to prevent Zundels deportation to Canada. I urged him to instruct the Canadian authorities to deny Zundel entry in case of any unilateral action by the US. We have also written to the US Ambassador to Canada, Paul Celluci, to seek his intervention. Canada cannot be a dumping ground for hatemongers.
Bnai Brith Canada has asked Jewish organizations such as Bnai Brith International and the Anti-Defamation League to assist in pressing for Zundels removal to Germany, his country of origin, rather than to Canada.
