B’nai Brith Canada asks why government is shielding Arafat terror groups?

Ottawa, February 12, 2003

For Immediate Release

Ottawa — B’nai Brith Canada President Rochelle Wilner expressed disappointment that neither the al-Aqsa Matyrs Brigade nor the Tanzim, terror groups with direct links to Yassir Arafat, were excluded from the updated list of prohibited terrorist organizations released the Solicitor-General today.

“We had been in communication with the Minister about these groups,” said Wilner. “It’s a real disappointment.”

“It’s not just a repeat of the Hezbollah affair,” added Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada, “it’s worse. These are two of the most vicious terror organizations in existence, with the avowed sole objective to murder and maim the largest number of innocent Jews possible. Just because they are directly linked to Yassir Arafat doesn’t mean that they should receive any special consideration. After all, we’re talking about saving people’s lives here.”

“Our government should remember that it’s not possible to be an honest broker without honesty.”
