B’nai Brith Canada alerts LGBT community to plans by anti-Israel agitators to hijack upcoming Montreal Pride Parade
TORONTO, August 11, 2009 – B’nai Brith Canada has alerted the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community of plans by anti-Israel agitators, aligned with the Tadamon! group, to hijack the agenda of this Sunday’s 2009 Montréal LGBTA Parade. Israel apartheid campaigners, that seek to delegitimize the Jewish State and its supporters here at home, have been organizing their attendance at the Pride parade through various social networking platforms.
“We find it quite alarming that anti-Israel agitators have, once again, decided to disrupt a parade with their hateful and ignorant message,” said Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President. “The 2009 Montréal LGBTA Parade is a time for the LGBT community to celebrate the diversity and respect that a country such as Canada affords us all.
“Like Canada, the Jewish State of Israel is the only country in the Middle East that guarantees the fundamental rights of all of its citizens, including those of the LGBT community. In stark contrast, it is still considered gravely dangerous to proclaim your membership in the LGBT community in the many Arab and Islamic states that neighbour Israel.
“The LGBT community, who are still to this day battling discrimination, should be cautious to ensure that the positive message of their celebratory events is not hijacked by a select few who wish to turn these occasions into opportunities to spread their hateful and divisive propaganda.”
