Hate Crime Conviction and Sentencing of Noble commended by B’nai Brith Canada

Toronto, February 5, 2008 – The conviction and sentencing of Keith Francis William Noble (aka Bill Noble) in B.C. Supreme Court for willful promotion of hatred was commended by B’nai Brith Canada. The evidence before the
court showed that Noble helped maintain an Internet website linked to white-supremacist groups where he published his racist views about Jews, blacks and gays. The court sentenced Noble yesterday to four months of
jail time along with three years probation.

Anita Bromberg, Legal Director, commented, “This is a case where dedicated police work along with the support of the provincial Crown came together to offer the protection envisioned by the Criminal Code provisions. Given
the evidence presented to the court regarding hate-filled and at times violent comments on a website which existed for some two years, a sentence of four months seems lighter than the circumstances warranted. It is
however crucial now that police maintain a careful watch during the three year probation period given the all too readily available support coming from white supremacists active across Canada, on and off the web, who are
already rallying to his support."
