Grassroots Jewish community gains a new voice in OttawaPosted On 03/06/06 Grassroots Jewish community gains a new voice in Ottawa
TORONTO, March 6, 2006 –B’nai Brith Canada, Canadian Jewry’s only independent national grassroots community organization, is pleased to announce that Michael Mostyn, a leading community activist, has been appointed to head the organization’s key government relations and diplomatic affairs portfolio.
“We welcome Michael Mostyn to B’nai Brith’s dedicated team of professionals, each an expert in his/her field,” said Gerry Weinstein, B’nai Brith Canada’s National President. “Michael’s impressive background as a successful Toronto lawyer, coupled with his extensive knowledge of the community and his interest in political life, will serve him well in his new position.
“Michael brings with him an existing familiarity to the workings of the organization, as a long-standing member of B’nai Brith and having served on the organization’s Legal Committee.”
In the last Federal election Michael represented the riding of York Centre as the Conservative candidate. In his new non-partisan role, Michael will be tasked with reaching out to government and opposition parties to educate those in public service on issues of widespread Jewish community concern. B’nai Brith’s key issue areas include the need to strengthen security protections for all citizens, implementing measures to counter antisemitism and racism, encouraging a strong Canada-Israel relationship and advancing a broad-based human rights agenda, both at home and abroad.
