CALL
TO ACTION |
|
The main objective of the Youth Conference was
to provide youth leaders with the tools to recognize hate and strategies
to counter prejudice. The combination of workshops, group discussions
and hands-on activities helped students spearhead new anti-racism
initiatives in their own schools. |

Initiatives and Ideas
|
|
| |
| |
At the end of the Conference, several students indicated to us that
they were planning to spearhead anti-hate initiatives at their schools.
Here are some of the ideas:
1. Set up a school assembly about fighting discrimination and taking
action against hate.
2. Offer peer counselling for students with problems (bullying, discrimination).
3. Plan a World Music dance with proceeds going to a not-for-profit
agency working to counter hate and prejudice.
4. Host a special benefit screening of “Bowling for Columbine”
(Michael Moore, 2002), followed by a discussion about hate and violence.
5. Initiate or develop the school’s Race and Cultural Equity
club (R.A.C.E.) or Students and Teachers Against Racism (S.T.A.R.)
club.
6. Invite the League for Human Rights and other organizations to speak
at future school events. |
