"Unto Every Person There Is A Name" is a worldwide Holocaust memorial project designed to perpetrate the memory of the Jewish victims of the Shoah as individuals, by the recitation of their names on Yom Hashoah. B'nai Brith Canada has been coordinating this programme in Canada for the past 5 years. The event is held simultaneously in several large cities and smaller communities. In addition to the recitation of names, the ceremony includes the reading of poems, the chanting of prayers and the lighting of memorial candles. This project is an effective tool to educate people about the Holocaust and to counter the efforts of Holocaust deniers who seek to convince the world that the Holocaust never occurred.
The "Holocaust and Hope" Educators Study Tour of Europe and Israel provides a solid experiential basis for high school educators teaching about the Holocaust. The Educators chosen to participate in the Tour gain extensive and invaluable first-hand understanding of the Holocaust through a 3-week tour of Germany, Poland and Israel. Seminars with Holocaust survivors, witnesses and educators are part of this multi-faceted program of lectures, on-site visits and personal contacts.
The "Holocaust and Hope" Student Study Tour, a 2-week study tour of Israel, is designed to give Canadian high school students access to some of the best Holocaust education resources in the world, with the purpose of increasing awareness of the Holocaust and the relevance of its lessons to the lives of young people in Canada today. The Student Tour is highlighted by visits to teaching facilities in Israel dedicated to familiarizing young people with the facts, meanings and implications of the Holocaust.
Both tours are open to teachers and students of all ethnic backgrounds.
