IRAN UPDATE 2 - June 21, 1999

The Institute for International Affairs of B’nai Brith Canada continues to press for action on behalf of the 13 Iranian Jews arrested on allegations of espionage.

Their position remains extremely precarious, amidst reports received in Israel that additional Jews may have been arrested. There has been no additional information about the welfare of the detainees, nor details of the charges against them, despite numerous appeals by government officials and political figures in Canada and worldwide. In Iran itself an influential cleric has just called for the execution of these prisoners, even though they have not yet been brought to trial.

Since the fax number we were using in Iran appears to have been disconnected, please direct your urgent appeal to the Iranian Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Dr. Seyed Mohammad H. Adeli, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 245 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario K2P 2K2, fax no. (613) 232-5712. Please make the form letter in this package available to your membership.

THIS IS A MATTER OF THE UTMOST URGENCY
